How to get printing set up under Terminal Services
|
|
|
| |
Overview
With the introduction of Windows 2003 Terminal Services, the entire client side
printing process has been re-architected under two categories; "Client
Rendered" and "Server Rendered". Unlike our legacy environment (MetaFrame)
where all print jobs were rendered on the Server via a "Mapped Printer Driver"
and sent through the Client for printing, the new "Client Rendered" environment
creates a virtual printer on the Server side that matches the characteristics
of the Client printer and then streams print jobs to the Client for Rendering
and Printing, thus eliminating Printer Driver compatibility issues on the
Servers. The "Server Rendered" architecture provides a solution for WinTerm
devices and legacy applications that need to print to an LPT1 port.

For a PC with one or more Windows Printers Defined: (Client Rendered)

|
Prerequisites:
-
ALL Users of the new Windows 2003 Terminal Services Environment must have an
Active Directory ID.
Process:
-
Verify that your PC has one or more Windows Printers Defined and that you can
print to them through a Windows program such as Microsoft Word / Excel or
Notepad.
-
Install the Universal
Print Driver and validate its installation by checking your Control Panel
for the "Simplify Printing Client v3" Icon. (You
will need select "Other Control Panel
Options" to see this Icon.)
-
Verify that the Simplify Printing Client has detected your Windows Printers by
checking your "Available Printers"
dialog.
-
In the above example you will see that there are three (3) printers available.
-
If in your dialog box you don't see any printers listed, try pressing the
"Query Printers" button on the bottom of the page to re-query your printer
list. If you continue to have problems, please contact the Managed Web Services TSx Support Center
for additional support.
-
Logon to a Windows 2003 Terminal Server and test printing.
-
If you are unable to successfully print a test page, please read our
Support FAQ for the next troubleshooting steps.

and procedures for having a printer set up.
(Please allow at least 5 to 7 business days for the entire process to be
completed.)
Prerequisites:
-
ALL Users of the new Windows 2003 Terminal Services Environment must have an
